Beyond Catskills: Mountain Dale

Updated: Apr 18, 2023

Our annual Catskills trip tradition continues with a trip to Mountain Dale. I have had my eyes on Mountain Dale for quite some time. High Voltage Catskills initially caught my eye + sparked my interest in the area. I like to explore lesser known places + hidden gems, Mountain Dale fit the bill.

We checked into our airbnb, perfectly located right on Mountain Dale’s Main Street + two doors down from High Voltage with the Creek Bar in the backyard. Mountain Dale is in the process of a re-birth so their Main Street is small with only a few businesses. It is more of a weekend town with majority of places only open on the weekend + some Thursday-Sunday.

We headed a few stores down for lunch at Forage + Gather. An adorable cafe, eatery, bookshop + wine bar. Lunch was delicious, fresh and locally sourced. We walked lunch off on the Rail + Trail, just a five minute walk from our airbnb. We celebrated Taco Thursday at the Creek Bar with some tasty tacos + margaritas.

Oh the Creek Bar. What a vibe. High Voltage created a little bar hideaway in the woods behind their place, next to a creek + it is magical. There are fire pits, a camper turned bar, string lights, a babbling creek + the great outdoors. I could stay there all night.

Woke up bright + early the next morning headed to Neversink River Unique area for a hike. The area has plenty of hikes to waterfalls, dams + gorges. With Luna, we only hiked a small portion of the trail, but it was beautiful. After the hike we headed to Livingston Manor + fueled up with some BBQ at the Smoke Joint Catskills. We walked around the adorable town of Livingston Manor, strolled the Main Street + popped into some shops. We headed two minutes up the road for a beer at the Catskills Brewery.

We headed back to Mountain Dale + went to The Dale for pizza + some dancing under a disco ball. We walked across the street back to our favorite spot, the Creek Bar for some drinks, live music + the company of fellow Bayshore locals.

The next day we head back on the road to go apple + pumpkin picking at Greig Farm + Rose Hill Farm, farms I fell in love with on our trip last year to the Catskills. We got ourselves some apple cider donuts, a pumpkin + a bushel of huge delicious apples. We made a pit stop in Woodstock because a Catskills trip isn’t complete without a walk around Woodstock, stocking up on tea + lunch at Bread Alone.

Another Catskills trip in the books. Mountain Dale is worth a visit + a town I will continue to keep an eye on because it is just getting started.

See you next year, Catskills.
