Beyond Catskills: Saugerties + the Farm Tour

The Catskills. Every year the mountains call + we make the trip up to the Catskills. I rarely like to travel to the same place twice but there is just something about the Catskills that draws me there every year.

Our home base this year was the adorable little town of Saugerties. We checked in to our AirBNB, which was perfectly situated steps away from the main drag. No frills, a simple stay with just a bed, TV + a waterfall shower.

Up the block we found the perfect spot - The Partition Bar. It was our go to place during our stay for drinks + small bites. Currently New York law is that you have to order food when you order a drink. For dinner we headed to Rock Da Casbah - a funky little spot with good drink specials + a decent buttermilk fried chicken.

The highlight was what I have been waiting for since I spotted it on Instagram - THAI TEA ice cream with cookies + cream from Alleyway ice cream. Being a huge Thai tea fan, I could not wait to try this. I am happy to report it did not disappoint. Their Key Lime Crunch was also out of this world. This is a MUST stop.

Day 2 - The farm tour. We decided to cross over to the other side of the Hudson River to farm hop. First stop - Rose Hill Farms in Red Hook. Picture perfect family run farm where we picked juicy honey crisp apples, ate a delicious apple cider doughnut + hot cider. The cider brewery wasn't open yet when we got there in the morning but this place is worth a second visit.

5 minutes down the road + we arrived at the second farm - Greig Farms. Yet another picture perfect family farm with goats, a market, apple picking + pumpkin picking in the patch. In Jersey you'll find pumpkins perfectly placed in the field so I was excited to finally pick a pumpkin from the vine like when I was a kid.

Another 5 minute drive down the road + we arrived at the third farm. This time there was no picking involved just drinking since it was a brewery! Meet From the Ground Brewery. A small little shack in the middle of another picture perfect farm which pours a nice cold beer that you can sip while taking in the gorgeous scenery. This is a true hidden gem + MUST stop.

Back to Saugerties where we strolled around town, had more drinks with wings + of course had to end the night with Cinnamon Toast Crunch ice cream from Alleyway.

The last day we took to the great outdoors with a morning hike less than ten minutes away at the Falling Waters Preserves. A moderate two mile hike with waterfalls + gorgeous views of the Hudson River.

A Catskills trip for us cannot be complete without a trip to Woodstock to stock up on tea + bread from Bread Alone. After enjoying delicious grilled cheese sandwiches + wandering around Woodstock we headed back on the road + back to reality.

Sometimes all it takes is a quick little getaway to the Catskills to feed your thirst for wanderlust + recharge. Until next year.
